ADA Title II

The accessibility deadline is real. An overlay won't get you there.

Public school websites and apps must meet WCAG 2.1 AA under the ADA Title II rule. EmberSchools fixes accessibility at the source — in your pages, posts and documents.

Deadlines

Two dates to know

  • April 26, 2027

Public entities serving a population of 50,000 or more

Many larger districts and the counties and cities they sit in.

  • April 26, 2028

Public entities serving fewer than 50,000 people

    Most small and rural districts.

Population is based on the public entity's jurisdiction. Check with your counsel for how the rule applies to your district.

How EmberSchools Helps

Fixed at the source

Accessibility is built into how content gets made — not bolted on after it's published.

  • Alt Text, Written With You

Images get suggested descriptions at upload. You review and approve.

  • PDFs Become Pages

Convert inaccessible PDFs into real web pages that screen readers and translation can use.

  • Checks Before You Publish

Heading order, link text, color contrast and empty links are flagged as you write.

  • One-Click Fixes

Common issues fix themselves with a click, so editors don't need to be experts.

  • Reports for Your Board

District-wide scores and issue lists, ready to share with leadership.

  • Every Language

Pages and posts are available in 100+ languages for families who need them.

No Overlays

Why we don't use overlay widgets

Overlay toolbars sit on top of a site and try to repair it in the browser. They don't fix the underlying content, they can interfere with screen readers, and they don't make a site conform to WCAG.

Overlay approach

  • Patches pages in the browser
  • Content stays inaccessible
  • Can conflict with assistive tech

EmberSchools approach

  • Fixes the content itself
  • Accessible templates and themes
  • Checks on every publish

FAQ

Accessibility questions

What standard does Title II require?
The Department of Justice's rule adopts WCAG 2.1 Level AA for web content and mobile apps. EmberSchools checks against WCAG 2.2 AA, which includes 2.1.
Does an overlay widget make our site compliant?
No. Overlays try to patch problems in the browser and often create new ones for people who use assistive technology. The fix has to be in the content and code itself.
Does this cover documents we post?
Yes. Documents posted on your site are web content. EmberSchools scans them and helps you fix or convert them.
Can EmberSchools guarantee we're compliant?
No product can on its own — your content matters too. EmberSchools gives you accessible templates, checks, fixes and reports so you can get there and stay there.
